Job Introduction

Serco has made significant contributions at their own COP2 Service Facility located next to EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, supporting a wide range of satellite operations and projects. As the owner and operator, Serco provides essential engineering, technical, and management services, playing a key role in logistics and operational support for satellite missions. Their expertise in ground systems, data processing, and facility management has earned them recognition, including 'Best in Service' awards from partners. The COP2 facility underscores Serco's commitment to excellence and innovation in satellite operations, ensuring reliable data services and mission success.
We are looking for a Spacecraft Controller to join our Flight Operations team within an established Earth Observation service onsite in Darmstadt.
Main Responsibilities
As Spacecraft Controller you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- Operate all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission
- Interact with parts of the ground segment and perform routine operations on the space segment
- Depending on the mission assignment, during the pre-launch phase assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations
- The successful candidate may be required to develop methods or tools to assist in the execution of the operations
- Depending on the mission assignment, On-console involvement in Mission Readiness Tests, System Validation Tests, simulations and Launch and Early Orbits Phase operations following established rules and procedures
- In case of ground or space segment anomaly take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingency/emergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure spacecraft safety and the continuity of service provision to users
- In the event of a major or critical anomaly escalate the issue in accordance with the established escalation procedures
- Participate to other operations-related activities (small system development, procedures development or maintenance etc) upon request of the Team Leader
Successful Candidate

- Technical background or a BSc in a related subject such as IT, Telecommunications, Physics, Aerospace Engineering etc
- Experience working with computer systems
- Team player mindset, with an efficient thinking focus in a procedure-driven working environment
- Ability to handle stressful situations and work autonomously
- Ability to work in shift rotations when necessary
- Fluent in English

About Serco
Serco provides the User Helpdesk and Data Centre Operations Service of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), which plays a key role in enhancing the use of EUMETSAT data, products and data services.
The main objective of the service is to ensure effective and user-driven service to support the provision of data, both real-time and offline, as well as to provide comprehensive technical information to support all forms of user enquiries relating both to current operational services and to future satellite programmes of EUMETSAT.
