We are seeking a Radio Navigation Engineer to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ESTEC) in the Netherlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world. 

The work involves designing, analyzing, testing, and validating Radio Navigation systems (GPS, GALILEO, EGNOS, etc.) and technologies for space and terrestrial applications. It includes developing navigation algorithms, assessing performance using simulations and measurements, and supporting ESA projects through industrial procurement and technical follow-ups. Activities also cover signal processing techniques, laboratory experiments, internal R&D and the preparation of technical documents and demonstrations.

Main Responsibilities

As Radio Navigation Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:

  • System Design and Testing: Lead and support the design and testing of advanced Radio Navigation systems and equipment.
  • Satellite Navigation Development: Innovate in satellite navigation systems, including ranging, positioning techniques, RF and signal processing technologies.
  • GNSS Expertise: Engage with GNSS, EGNOS and GALILEO systems and related simulation tools for testing and development.
  • Simulation and Testing: Implement, maintain and manage advanced Radio Navigation simulation and testing facilities for diverse applications (spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land vehicles).
  • Algorithm Application: Develop and refine satellite navigation positioning and integrity algorithms to meet system and user requirements.
  • Data Analysis: Perform detailed analysis and validation of navigation signals, systems and their performance.
  • Software Tools: Utilize advanced commercial simulation and analysis software effectively, with a focus on enhancing simulation capabilities.
  • Collaboration and Reporting: Work in multidisciplinary teams and prepare technical documentation, reports and presentations.
  • Emerging Technologies: Explore and implement new technologies for Radio Navigation systems, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of the field.

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • Educational Background: A Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in Radio Navigation system design, satellite navigation and digital navigation receivers.
  • Practical Experience: Proven track record in handling satellite navigation receivers, positioning algorithms and simulation/testing systems.
  • GNSS Knowledge: Strong understanding of GNSS, EGNOS, and GALILEO systems, with hands-on experience in related technologies.
  • Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with commercial simulation software for Radio Navigation is advantageous.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in managing complex navigation facilities and systems.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly document and present technical findings to diverse audiences.
  • Innovation-Oriented: Commitment to staying updated with advancements in Radio Navigation and contributing to innovation in the field.
