Serco, a key partner at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Training Officer to join our dynamic Spacecraft Operations Training Unit. Your Mission

As a Training Officer, you will be at the heart of Serco’s training excellence at ESOC. You’ll design, develop, and deliver comprehensive technical and operational training programs that empower satellite controllers, ground station operators, and mission support teams to perform at their best.

You’ll combine your technical knowledge with creative instructional design to craft hands-on simulations, engaging theory sessions, and certification pathways that meet the evolving needs of the space industry.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive training curricula tailored to operational roles across satellite missions.
  • Design individual and team training plans, including proficiency and refreshment modules.
  • Schedule, deliver, and track training sessions using simulations, theoretical assessments, and hands-on exercises.
  • Collaborate with operational units to ensure training reflects real-world mission needs and lessons learned.
  • Define and manage certification processes for key roles, including assessments and re-certifications.
  • Provide constructive feedback and follow-up training to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Monitor training effectiveness and implement remedial actions when needed.
  • Serve as a backup to the Head of Training Unit when required.

Successful Candidate

What You’ll Bring

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Space Science, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or certifications (e.g., Serco Space Academy) are a plus.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years in satellite operations, ground systems, or space technology.
  • 2+ years in training, instructional design, or adult education in a technical environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of satellite systems (TT&C, payload ops, ground infrastructure).
  • Experience with SCOS2000, simulation tools, and mission operations platforms.
  • Knowledge of RF communications, orbital mechanics, and anomaly resolution is a bonus.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability to different learning styles and technical backgrounds.
