Job Introduction

Serco offers space capability across the full space lifecycle.  We are supporting end-to-end operations and the entire lifecycle of the satellite from conception to launch. In Europe, Serco provides Front End and User Services, Satellite & Ground Systems Engineering and Operations, support to astronomy and planetary missions along with their scientific archives, Data Processing and Quality Control, Earth Observation Data Access and Exploitation, Ground Segment Infrastructure operations.

On behalf of our client, the European Space Agency, we are looking for a skilled System Security Engineer to join our team distributed over the ESA-ESTEC site, in the Netherlands, and the ESA-ESRIN site, in Italy. 

Your mission is to support the ESA Security Authority and the ESA Security Office team by ensuring that the ESA Security Framework is correctly implemented. You will support the agency space programmes and corporate activities in security, including System security analysis and design, System security requirements definition and implementation, Security technology, Project Risk analysis, Vulnerability and threat assessment, Accreditation and certification aspects.

Main Responsibilities

As a System Security Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:

  • Security Risk Assessments – perform comprehensive security risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and threats, assess the potential impact of security threats on ESA’s information systems.
  • Security Requirements – establish and define security requirements for information systems based on the results of security risk assessments and security best practices, assess the compliance of systems and processes with the defined security requirements.
  • Security Threat Analysis and Risk Treatment – perform in-depth security threat analysis to identify potential risks, develop and implement security risk treatment plans to mitigate identified risks.
  • Technical Documentation Assessment – review and assess technical documentation (as-designed and as-built) to ensure compliance with security requirements and policies, provide feedback and recommendations to improve security measures documented in technical documentation.
  • Certification and Accreditation Support – assist in the certification and accreditation process for various projects to ensure they meet security standards, support the development and submission of documentation required for certification and accreditation.
  • Security Documentation Preparation – prepare and maintain security-related project documentation, including security instructions, security plans, and compliance reports, ensuring that all documentation is up to date and reflects the current security posture of the organization.
  • Support for Security Governance – support client’s security bodies and officers, as well as security governance activities and relevant tools, to ensure effective security management.

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:

  • University Degree (Bach. or above) in Computer Sciences, IT, Information Security, Engineering or relevant technical domain.
  • At least 3 years of experience in information security or a related field.
  • Experience performing security risk assessments, developing risk treatment plans, and defining security requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of security standards and frameworks such as ISO27000, NIST, MITRE, EBIOS.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperate in a diverse international team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure as may typically occur in a project team.
  • Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
  • Candidates must be eligible to obtain a Personal Security Clearance.
