Job Introduction

Serco offers space capability across the full space lifecycle from satellite testing to launch services, LEOP to spacecraft operations, space surveillance to data management, and supporting downstream application development.
We are looking for a System Application Operator who will be part of the Serco Copernicus Engineering Operations. You will be involved in the operational management of our services, which include the management of EO data flows and the related Monitoring and Reporting components focused on the Services monitoring and performances computation and reporting.
The position is mainly focused on the Operations and Coordination Service (OCS) and Production, key and critical elements of the Copernicus Space Component (CSC).
Main Responsibilities
As a System Application Operator you will concentrate on the following:
- Manage service incidents and anomalies.
- Analysis and troubleshooting of the systems behaviour and performances.
- Generation and maintenance of Operational Procedures and work instructions.
- Technical support to the review and/or preparation of the services documentation.
- Participate to service evolution initiatives supporting prototyping and design.
- Extraction of service statistics and generation of Operational Reports and Service Performance Reports.
- Support the update of web contents (e.g. user guides, news publication, service web portals).
- Support testing and verification activities.
- Support the configuration control and definition of the network interfaces.
- Support to the help desk for replying to operational engineering issues.
- Interfacing with other groups (software development teams, infrastructure team, ESA Copernicus teams).
- On-Call: participating in on-call shifts during Extended Working Hours (EWH).
Successful Candidate
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Good knowledge of Linux Operating Systems (e.g., RedHat).
- Proficiency in Linux shell scripting.
- Knowledge of Earth Observation satellite data product formats.
- Knowledge of Satellite Ground Segments and related data flows.
- Knowledge of Copernicus program
- Proactive problem-solving attitude and ability to approach challenges efficiently.
- Ability to work in a team, sharing and acquiring knowledge effectively.
- Experience with dashboards for monitoring and reporting, such as Grafana.
- Familiarity with Docker for containerization.
- Strong command of the English language (written and spoken).
