Job Introduction

Serco is a leading Space Services Provider with thousands of skilled resources that has supported over 50 space missions on behalf of more than 10 Space or Government agencies around the globe, including the ESA and NASA. Serco offers space capability across the full space lifecycle from satellite testing to launch services, LEOP to spacecraft operations, space surveillance to data management, and supporting downstream application development.

 

We’re looking for a Software Developer, to reinforce the team in our Italy office!

Main Responsibilities

  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the processes of harvesting, ETL, data aggregation, and data presentation within a data warehouse system.
  • It will also be required to do data mining in case of functional anomalies.
  • Moreover the candidate will give support to the conversion of satellite data to EO-SIP format, that is the standard for most ESA Earth Observation missions, by writing also new converters or updating the ones already present.
  • The technical aspects in which the candidate should be strong include a solid knowledge of Linux, good proficiency in Java and Python programming, and experience with SQL queries and SQL programming, primarily with PostgreSQL.
  • To complete these tasks, interaction with colleagues from other countries is required, making proficiency in English essential for participating in meetings.

Successful Candidate

Has Expertise in:

  • Design and development of interfaces between multi-systems data processing and transformation programming in various languages, including PL/pgSQL

Is Experienced in:

  • Software Developer and Software Engineer
  • Java Programming
  • Python
  • Linux O.S. and native shell scripting
  • Troubleshoot and upgrade of existing software
  • Writing complex queries in SQL

Any experience in the following would be of great value:

  • Tableau or similar BI tools
  • Postgres RDBMS
  • Postgres programming language plpgsql
  • XML/XSD
  • EO data products
  • Business Intelligence and data presentation tools and technics
  • Business Intelligence procedures
  • ETL procedures
  • Nagios or similar monitoring tools

Additional skills:

  • Good communications skills in English (spoken, written) and possibly good knowledge of Italian
  • Proactive approach to problem identification and resolution
  • Take full responsibility for the successful conclusion of the activities and success-oriented
  • Very good customer liaison capability and team-player spirit
  • Sharp and curious mind
  • Availability to travel within Europe to attend meetings
