Job Introduction
Serco has made significant contributions at ESA's European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands, supporting a wide range of space missions and projects. Serco has provided essential engineering, technical, and management services, playing a key role in logistics and operational support for missions. On behalf of our client, the European Space Agency, we are looking for a skilled Optical Engineer to join our team at the esteemed ESA-ESTEC site, in the Netherlands.
Main Responsibilities
As an Optical Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following:
- Translation of optical payload performance requirements into optical systems specifications.
- Conceptual design of optical systems, as telescopes, spectrometers.
- Optical design analysis and verification including optical tolerances analyses.
- Assessment of opto-mechanical layouts.
- Definition of plans for experimental validation and calibration of optical systems.
- Evaluation and analysis of test results.
- Verification of high precision optical components technology developments.
Successful Candidate
Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring:
- Master or PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
- At least 4 years of relevant experience.
- Project and/or industrial experience in the design, engineering and testing of various type of optical instrumentation.
- Good working knowledge of ZEMAX and/or CODE V (and preferably also ASAP).
- Hands-on experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment and tolerancing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are needed, together with a high degree organizational and communication abilities, and comfortable with working in a diverse and multinational team environment.
- Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
